Top five idiotic video game villians

As we play through many memorable games of yesteryear's past, it can be daunting of how many have those imbeciles that call themselves the bad guys. Causing a backfire in a plan or just making a dumb one, I'll be mentioning a select few that I thought were the goofiest but also enjoyable for laughs.

5. Rootrick - Brave Fencer Musashi on Playstation (1998)

Rootrick is a recurring villain of this game, but he shows his true dimwitted nature in which he challenges Musashi to a race to get to the top of a mountain before he does in which you use two swords to climb up. Even if you make it up second, Musashi claims that Rootrick dropped his cape at the bottom. This leaves him looking back down below to sight it out, only for Musashi to knock him off the cliff with a boulder.

4. Sven T. Uncommon - Popful Mail on Sega CD (1994)

This guy is one of those villains that has that Gaston vibe to him, in which he thinks he looks dashing to himself, but rather than being a lady-chaser he's all about talking about his muscles and his own power. But if that's not enough he spews random Arnold Schwarzenegger references to sound mighty. For a villain coming from a 16-bit game at the time, this was genius for an idiotic bad guy.

3. Ozzie - Chrono Trigger on Super Nintendo (1995)

After the downfall of Magus it turns out that one of his old colleagues, Ozzie had built a fort and with each section having a set of traps within the exterior. Crono and friends make it inside as he spots them, only for them to make it past each trap in no time flat. On his last try, Ozzie sets up one final trap to stop them in their tracks, only for it to go haywire as a stray cat wanders inside the room and sets the trap, causing Ozzie to fall down a floor pit. This scene always cracks me up.

2. Nack the Weasel - Sonic the Hedgehog in Triple Trouble on Sega Game Gear (1994)

Nack was a character to the Sonic series that quickly came and went, but his role was to be a treasure hunter. In Triple Trouble, he's helping Dr. Robotnik in capturing the Chaos Emeralds by being one step ahead of Sonic inside of the Special Stages, now labyrinth-like levels. For making it to the end of a Special Stage, Nack always had a machine for Sonic to fight. Except on one Special Stage, in which he tries to press on a switch and it goes haywire on him making him catch flames. Perhaps he takes after Wile E. Coyote in some cases?

1. Bowser - Super Mario Bros. (1985)

He may have acted all high and mighty when kidnapping Princess Toadstool (or Peach, if you want to stick with her current name) but it seems that Bowser always sets in motion an easy way out of a boss fight with him. The guy puts an axe on a platform that's conveniently next to the bridge that he's fighting you on, how dumb can one scheme a plan? Bowser, that's who.

And that wraps up this little top list. I apologize for shortness, but I didn't want this particular subject to stretch too far. Until next time, Retro-Dazers!
