Rarely Remembered Cereals
It's time to shine a light on some long-forgotten cereals. Cereals forgotten by many... but not by us.
Big Mixx (1990-1992)
As a kid, I always thought cereals should sell mixed-together boxes of cereals. We did it ourselves at home anyway. I'd think to myself, "General Mills owns both Lucky Charms and Trix... why not sell them all mixed together in the same bag?" I should note that now this HAS been done commercially with Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Lucky Charms. Anyway, in the '90s this was only a dream, and Big Mixx scratched that itch. This cereal felt like random components of other cereals were chosen and plopped into this mix of flakes, raisins, nuts, puffs, and whatever else was in here. The star of the show, however, was undoubtedly the chicken-wolf-moose-pig mascot. This felt like a cereal that actually could have passed for a "healthy" adult cereal if not branded by that crazy mascot. No marshmallows. No chocolate. No fruity-whatevers. Moose-chicken man and the idea of the rules being broken was enough to make this mixed-up cereal a classic for kids back in the day.

Hidden Treasures (1993-1995)
Here's a cereal gimmick that I've only seen here. Unknown contents in each cereal piece. Some have fruity frosting inside. Some orange, some grape, and some cherry. Other cereal pieces have... NOTHING!! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! A great idea which kids loved, even though taking a spoonful of these babies really tells you... not much. Of course, you could (and did) break apart individual pieces to investigate. That was simply a breakfast activity that no other cereal could provide.

Sprinkle Spangles (1993-1998)
Actual sprinkles on a breakfast cereal? I'm in. What's a spangle exactly? Doesn't matter.
The box is great. It had an excellent font choice. Super fun-looking letters. Honestly, for me, the main x-factor here is the loud neon teal color of the majority of the box. This baby stands out in the cereal aisle and in your pantry.
Now... the sprinkles. They were the real deal. Tiny crunchy rainbow spheres, just like you might get on ice cream. Marshmallows in cereal always felt like we weren't getting the real thing. I wanted real, soft, pillowy marshmallows. With sprinkle Spangles, I got the real thing. Sprinkles make would make any cereal delicious.

Do you remember these 3 gems? If I could bring back just one for a return run in supermarkets... it's a close call, but I think I'd go with Sprinkle Spangles. General Mills CEO Jeff Harmening, when you read this as you undoubtedly will... now is the time for action.
