Article | Vaporman87 | I have to say, I wasn't aware that films like this had their own genre... Heavy Metal-sploitation. But it certainly fits. This undoubtedly tapped into a lot of frustration and angst being felt by young fans of Heavy Metal, and kids who've been on the receiving end of a bully's wrath. I was one of those kids too. I was probably one of the shortest kids in my school, and an art nerd at that. So I can relate. Somehow, I managed to steer clear of confrontation for the most part. Sure, there was the occasion when my books were knocked out of my hands from behind, or the stupid "Made Ya Flinch!" fake punch that meant you had to receive a raised knuckle pounding to the arm (seriously... for having good reflexes?), but I kept to myself and away from those I knew might cause me trouble. I can see a movie like this helping to cope with all that. Nowadays, there is such an anti-bully movement going on that such things are borderline criminal. Which, I suppose, is a good thing. But it does make one wonder how prepared kids will be when they face that sort of thing in "real life". You need to know how to face confrontation in life, and how to avoid it. Hopefully that is also something happening in today's schools. But I doubt it. | Aug 18, 2015 | ![]() |

Article | onipar | Wow, what a cool story! I wish I could remember how I got my first Nintendo, but I guess it was just a mundane occurrence for me. Loved reading this one, cheers! | How I Got My NES | Aug 18, 2015 | ![]()
Article | Vaporman87 | No doubt, that was a tearjerker for me growing up. I loved the movie so much, but it was hard to get through the whole thing sometimes knowing what was to come. When I first saw the film, the tension that was building when Atreyu tries to pass by the Oracle Statues really had me biting my nails. I'll never forget that feeling. As an adult, you expect things to turn out okay for the protagonist because if it doesn't, the moviegoers will be very upset. But as a kid, you figure his chances are about as good as your own, and that doesn't inspire confidence. LOL Like you said though, the ending makes it all worth it. Fun fact: The voice of Falkor is also the voice of Man-At-Arms and many other MOTU characters from the original He-Man series. | Movies that damaged me as a child - Part 1 | Aug 18, 2015 | ![]()
Article | Vaporman87 | Great story mass! What a odd and interesting way to finally end up with an NES. The year I and my brother first got an NES of our own was probably the greatest Christmas (as far as sheer number of awesome presents) I ever had. Not only did we get the NES and games, but also we each got our own ATVs! It was crazy. I'll never forget that Christmas. | How I Got My NES | Aug 18, 2015 | ![]()

Article | Hoju Koolander | Saturdays were all about TV for me (but then again, so was every other day). X-Men, Spider-Man and Batman on FOX Kids, then switch over to ABC for Cow-Boys of Moo-Mesa or The Addams Family cartoon, maybe try out an episode of Saved By The Bell: The New Class on NBC, before switching back to FOX for WMAC Masters and getting my wrestling fix from WWF Superstars. If I did go outside it was just a trip to my favorite comic book store, that was the true Saturday destination. After all, you needed an hour or more to browse all the back issues. | A Mid-90's Saturday With c_b_f | Aug 16, 2015 | ![]()
