ArticleHoju Koolander@OldSchool80s I actually owned a New Kids On The Block doll that had a similar cassette gimmick, though it just featured an interview with the group from what I recall. @Vaporman87 When I worked at Disneyland as a costumed character I actually met M.C. Hammer while dressed as Kronk. He was still rocking a Walkman and it was 2001! @jkatz Yeah, Joe Camel was the least of our concerns. All of our Hollywood heroes from Ghostbusters to Arnold were lighting one up back in the day. Jun 09, 2017View
ArticleHoju Koolander"I learned it from watching you" and the McGruff Don't Use Drugs song were my go to PSA messages. In my Summer School Health class around 1998 we watched a tape full of the Snake Drug Dealer style messages featuring everyone from Pee-Wee Herman to Gene Simmons of KISS and we were just cracking up the whole time. I recently uploaded a bunch of PSA commercials from my personal VHS collection here if anybody wants a laugh 1980s Public Service Announcements: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLG99Q5yS9Q6ymQSCBDhdqe1H0BPBWZrLrMemories of PDFA, and other PSA’s Jun 09, 2017View
ArticleHoju KoolanderI remember being baffled by my friend's SuperPro comics because he seemed like the antithesis of every comic book nerd's desires. We're reading comics because we suck at sports, stop rubbing it in our faces! I recently played Comic Zone for the first time after seeing the ads for years and I'm with jkatz, it's actually a really innovative game. But the character designs are completely of the era. Morph was definitely a dud character on the show, but I enjoyed playing with his action figure that came with a decapitated Wolverine head. My Five Favorite Super Losers of the 90'sJun 09, 2017View
ArticleHoju KoolanderFun movie with some great monologues that do make high schoolers stop and think about those roles that are forced on them by others. A bunch of my friends actually performed a scene from The Breakfast Club for a high school talent show, which has always given the film a special place in my heart. The Breakfast Club and Changing PerceptionsJun 09, 2017View

ArticleVaporman87As many times as I've watched this movie, I've never actually viewed Allison's "makeover" in the way you describe. I've never had that "debate". To me, she is just opening herself up to Claire... allowing Claire to share this ritual with her. A bonding moment. It's just that there was the added benefit of Andrew seeing how beautiful she actually is when she is not hiding under a coat and mop of hair. I don't think she changed at all. 3944ArticleVaporman87I have a similar fondness for Showbiz Pizza. I read about your memories at DZ and I can feel myself back in Showbiz experiencing many of the same things. Also, I love this line: "...my dad, who could be mistaken for a full grown bear in jeans..." LOLDiscovery Zone: Memories of a Ball PitJun 21, 2017View
ArticleVaporman87I would have been 8 at the time E.T. came out, but I don't recall going to see the film, nor do I recall the first time I actually did get to watch it. I wish I did though. My first memory of a movie theater was either Ghostbusters or Gremlins. E.T. was indeed a big pop culture influence. I recall owning an E.T. plush with a special "skin" that was more lifelike than the standard vinyl exterior of some plush toys without fur. And yes, I even owned the infamous E.T. Atari game, though I don't recall feeling it was the worst game ever made at the time.Seeing E.T. For The First TimeJun 21, 2017View
ArticleVaporman87I saw exactly NONE of these game shows, but a few of them may have been interesting to me had I actually had the opportunity to watch them. Even as an adult, I've only ever heard of Xuxu and Masters of the Maze from this list. Perhaps this is why nobody speaks of them anymore. Because they were so easily missed and faded quickly into obscurity. At least you've given them some present day love.Five Game Shows No One Talks About AnymoreJun 21, 2017View
