To me, she is just opening herself up to Claire... allowing Claire to share this ritual with her. A bonding moment. | 3945 | Article | Vaporman87 | I would have been 8 at the time E.T. came out, but I don't recall going to see the film, nor do I recall the first time I actually did get to watch it. I wish I did though. My first memory of a movie theater was either Ghostbusters or Gremlins. E.T. was indeed a big pop culture influence. I recall owning an E.T. plush with a special "skin" that was more lifelike than the standard vinyl exterior of some plush toys without fur. And yes, I even owned the infamous E.T. Even as an adult, I've only ever heard of Xuxu and Masters of the Maze from this list. Perhaps this is why nobody speaks of them anymore. He would watch late night shopping network shows, buying up the cards. It was a crazy time. So many great "time capsule" ads here. So many shows here that I've never heard of. Like you've mentioned, some of these really do have the star power, and on paper they should have been successes. But that isn't a guaranteed formula. The viewing public can be a fickle bunch. I don't think anybody was ready to see Jack Tripper in a marriage setting. And maybe people weren't as keen on high-tech motorcycles like they were talking Trans Ams. But some of these really seemed to have a good premise. I'd like to be able to catch some episodes of Paper Dolls, Call to Glory, and Hawaiian Heat. Craig T. Nelson, Elisabeth Shue, AND Keenan Wynn?! I too had to deal with the divorce of my parents at around the same age. It was a difficult time, but it was nice to have the time specifically devoted to doing things together. I lived with my mom until I was old enough to make my own choice of who to live with, and since my mom was moving to another town and I had no interest in losing my friends and making new ones, I moved in with my dad. But I can still remember that first time I visited dad following the split. He took us into town and bought me a Mantis figure from G.C. Murphy's, then we went and watched Silver Bullet. I remember nothing about that movie, but I clearly recall that it was the film we watched. I benefited from the divorce in many ways, but most of all with an expanded family. I earned a brother that I am close to even today, with my dad once again divorced. I met many new people I would have otherwise never known, and experienced new things. | 3991 | Article | Vaporman87 | I'm pretty sure you've had the most retro-privileged life of any person on Earth. A person could make 10 childhoods out your one. But as far as both TRU and Kaybee (or KB) are concerned, I was more of a KB kid. I think because we didn't really have a Toys 'R Us nearby for most of my childhood. However, there was a Kaybee Toys in the nearest mall for a long time. Later I came to appreciate KB for their well worn stock. It became a hunting ground for me in the late '90s when the new Godzilla movie was soon to arrive, and the King of the Monsters and Godzilla Wars Trendmasters toys could still be found on the occasional KB shelf. I was fetching good money for those on Ebay, while bolstering my own collection (man, I've been a member of Ebay for almost 20 years. That's insane). | Toy Store Dreams | Jul 22, 2017 | |
