49469Hey, Things could be Worse!
My dad has a shirt from that movie. He was an extra in it, but the scene was cut. After my parents told me about the movie I watched it online. All the paralles between today's world and the one in the movie are mentioned in this Cracked article. There are also some mentioned on the movie's wikipeida page.

https://www.cracked.com/blog/5-mediocre-movies-made-awesome-by-real-events

pikachuloverSep 08, 2022View

49467The Andy Griffith Show
Most people would pick the black-and-white episodes over the colorized episodes, but there's really genuine classics.

There's this one great episode called "Dinner at Eight" that'll really keep you hungry.

Andy has a spaghetti dinner with his friend Goober and after that dinner he ends up having another dinner with Howard and his mother. The funny thing was, Andy wasn't even supposed to come over there for dinner! Of course, Howard and his mother weren't just going to tell him to go home. So Andy ends up having another spaghetti meal! And this is thanks to Goober! He screws things up for Andy by telling him he's invited to Howard's home for dinner. Well, later on when Andy comes home, he gets a call from Helen his girlfriend. She informs Andy that he was supposed to have a dinner with her and his uncle that evening. Sure enough, he goes over there. And by now, I'm sure you know what they had.

You'd have to have a stomach made of iron to tackle that many spaghetti meals.
Mr MagicSep 07, 2022View

49465The Café
Thank you guys it's great to have friends, especially when your hometown becomes unrecognizable.

For years the Tidewater region was a strange mix of history, people, customs and traditions. My grandma and her generation enjoyed British tea time with a southern twist. Almost everyone I knew enjoyed sharing stories about the area with all the navy serviceman who were puzzled by some of the weird observances.

I still remember the 1962 NATO Day Celebration Parade through downtown Norfolk.

The North Atlantic Fleet Commaner was waving like a madman from the rear seat of a 1960 Imperial LeBaron hardtop sedan. My mom wanted to know why I got upset by the sight of the NATO Commander and I told her I thought he was being abducted to Great Britain and never to be seen again. (and that car freaked me out too).

eddstarrSep 07, 2022View

49463The Café
i'm.... honestly thankful that i live in dutton, virginia now. chesapeake, newport news, portsmouth, virginia beach, norfolk, all the worst places to live in, while dutton and gloucester have been serene and quiet. i honestly missed this lifestyle from the early 2000s when i lived in gloucester for the first time. no trains waking me up at midnight or early in the morning, no sound of shootings happening every day like it was in those places. edd, if you could ever get the chance to move around here i'd love to visit.
BenjanimeSep 06, 2022View
49462A gag in Treehouse of Horror V
It would be a curiosity if this was the only incident where shows are labeled with a warning for content, or edited, or outright banned. But I've learned to my horror that many TV shows have had the hatchet treatment. Nationally broadcasted primetime shows have been altered to meet community standards, or even banned completely.

I was seven years old in 1964 and had no idea that ABC's, "The Outer Limits", suffered many local ABC affiliates breaking their contracts to avoid airing episodes of the show from 1963 to 1964, mostly across the southern bible belt - ideas that are especially bad influences on children.

In this 1964 episode called, "Counterweight", Earth wants to terraform, and then colonize the planet Antheon. Across the vastness of interstellar space, the inhabitants of Antheon realize that humans, and their scientific equipment, can't detect their existence - the lifeforms of Antheon live outside the range of our five senses and the detection equipment of our space probes.

Therefore, Antheon reached across interplanetary space to touch the minds of six human volunteers in an experiment that simulates what future flight to Antheon would be like. But instead of finding beings filled with kindness, acceptance, and a love of life - the spiritual force of Antheon found humans filled with anger, hate, mistrust and envy.

The humans had to be stopped in the only way possible - to reach into the human mind and become the horrible monsters that only live inside each of us. Without the ability to truly care for each other, the human race will never leave Earth!

eddstarrSep 06, 2022View
