Superman
I'm quite fond of some of the villains that appeared on Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. The Lex Luthor on that show was pretty deliciously evil, but I also enjoyed some of the villains that weren't adapted from the comics, too. Tempus and Mindy Church are the two big ones who weren't from the comics that come to my mind immediately when I think about the show's best villains.

I'm not a trekkie but I definitely think that the Borg are some of the best villain(s) on the small screen, a technologically advanced unstoppable killing force.

All during my time at RetroJunk I used to tell you guys about some of my favorite TV shows from the 1960's.

After all these years I can now show you two shows that rocked because the villains made all the difference.

The Magnificent Dr. Miguelito Loveless - "The Wild, Wild West" - 1966

This is the role that made Michael Dunn, "America's Favorite Man of Small Stature". Dr. Loveless was the greatest villain James West faced and the episodes that featured Dr. Loveless were always crowd pleasers. It seemed to me that Michael Dunn was born to play Dr. Loveless. There's something very special when a bad guy always seems to be on the verge of a smile while he plans the hero's death, especially when the villain thinks aloud to let the audience in on his fiendish plans.

But wait - there's More!

Tiny Tom - "The Lone Ranger" Animated Series - 1966

In 1966, "The Wild, Wild West" aired Saturday nights on CBS. But for Saturday mornings, CBS had a cartoon that captured the same spirit of James West with the introduction of "The Lone Ranger" cartoon.

CBS, the same network that dominated SatAM with "The NEW Adventures of Superman", plus a whole lineup of other superheroes took a chance with an animated western series - with a twist.

The cartoon Lone Ranger would have interesting villains to deal with. Sounds familiar? The "superhero formula" worked wonders for the Lone Ranger. He was also given a James West style bad guy in the guise of Tiny Tom, an animated take of Dr. Loveless in my humble opinion!

With "The Wild, Wild West" such a big hit with kids of all ages, why not give an animated Lone Ranger a chance?

While you watch Tiny Tom try to do away with the Lone Ranger and Tonto - pay close attention to the music. This cartoon series was conceived around a full orchestra providing all the incidental music used in every episode, not just the Ranger's musical theme.

Skeletor, naturally. But also Megatron, Soundwave, and Shockwave from Transformers, Major Blood from G.I. Joe, and Miles Mayhem from M.A.S.K.

Outside of cartoons, I would say K.A.R.R., Goliath, and Garthe Knight from Knight Rider.

You love this signature.
Mr Magic
Frieza from Dragonball Z.

He killed a little kid. That's how sinister he is.

You guys all know I'm a fan of the original Battlestar Galactica from 1978.

I thought the Cylons were excellent villains.
Unless you infect them with a virus that scrambles their programming, turning them into a college roommate.

First there was "Astroboy", then there was "Ultraman".

But none were as much fun as the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers".
And it was all because of my favorite lady villain, Rita Repulsa.

That premiere episode, with the deliberately awful dubbing, was mostly filmed in Japan and it set-up the series beautifully by introducing the villain first.

Robbie Rotten (LazyTown)... while not a vindictive evil villain (mostly harmless, except unless you count when he gave Sportacus the sugar apple...), he's my fave. The man just wants to lay around and eat cake, which I totally relate with. And, my fangirl heart can't help but love him for being attractive. LOL
