I got an unfamiiar phone number on my phone today. It was a collect call from a correctional facility in Raleigh, NC.

Actually it was a scam number. I checked it out and others have gotten the same number.

Don't inmates usually get one phone call?

My friend Adam posted his 1967 Oldsmobile Delta 88 today for my 66th Birthday.

I was 10 years old in 1967, and Oldsmobile was an automotive force to be reckoned with.

Very sharp car

My dad was so proud when he surprised the family with a new Oldsmobile Delta 88 sedan a few weeks before my 10th birthday in February 1967.



That 67 Oldsmobile had the Performance-ratio rear axle, and the Hi-Compression 425 Rocket V8. And that combo resulted with my mom squealing the tires everytime she touched the gas pedal. Turns out it was difficult for mom to back out of our driveway without riding the brakes to slow the car down.

The engine/transmission/final drive gearing made that 67 Delta 88 a real speed hog that easily overwhelmed the old bias-ply tires that came standard on the car. Waay too much power for that type of car at the time. According to an article in Consumer Guide magazine, 1967 Oldsmobiles were burning rubber all over the country. 

With the introduction of the 455 Rocket V8 in 1968, Oldsmoblie began to lower compression ratios across its engine lineup, with many go-fast equipment options moved to "special order" status only.
