This is one of the few major manga/anime franchises that I've never been able to get into. However, I saw the 90's film this past weekend and with the new film being released on Friday, I'm generally interested in looking into it.

Who here is a fan? It seems like a cool science-fiction series with some decent action.

I've not seen the original or any other media of it. But apparently it's a big deal to many. Still don't understand why this is greenlit but nobody is making a Mass Effect movie. Seriously Hollywood? Seriously?

Given Hollywood's track record for video game adapted movies, I'm sure no one wants to take on a project that likely is going to be negatively reviewed.

>Just 'cause they haven't made any good video game movies doesn't mean it's impossible. I mean, look at how many awful comic book movies there have been, vs how many good ones, and the trends of when both came out. But, I can also understand the difficulty of investing without a guaranteed return... not everything should be a "free market" but big budget entertainment surely falls within those parameters. High quality is required for that. So all we need is for a good writer who is interested in a particular game to get the attention of a producer/studio with money by writing a great script and getting it into somebody's hands.

I for one am excited about this movie. It looks awesome, speaking as a big fan of the cyberpunk genre. I have been aware of the anime movie for a long time but I haven't seen it. I want to watch the first movie and then see this new live-action one.

Oh definitely. I'm not saying it's impossible, but the track record makes it hard for companies to want to invest in a project.

So far it's mixed reviews, though the one I saw from a fan of the movie and series saying it is great. I'm seeing it Friday.

I suspect it'll be an enjoyable movie in its own right, but will take some liberties with the adaptation that will make fans unhappy (besides the most glaring and obvious one).

The women of New Vegas ask me a lot if there's a Mrs. New Vegas. Well, of course there is! You're her. And you're still just as perfect as the day we met.
