Don't Look Now but Carole Landis Is About To Get It!

When I was a kid old movies from the 1930's and the 1940's filled every weekend as local television stations were on their own when it came airing content. The networks only ran part-time schedules right up to the late 1970's!

Fans of ghost stories had plenty to pick from and my favorite is this classic haunted romp from 1941, "Topper Returns", starring my top 40's gals, Joan Blondell and Carole Landis!

Two years after starring in, "The Wizard of Oz" as Glenda, Billie Burke is in top form sticking it to Roland Young in a fit of husband and wife banter that never seems to end - I just love it!

Reserve a spot for the freezer scene - it's standing room only!

Some of this stuff is a little before my time (I was born in 1980), but my dad always made an effort to introduce me to older movies I may otherwise miss. Topper Returns is one of his favorites as well, and one I enjoyed quite a bit.

Another older one he introduced me to, which I love to watch this time of year of course, is Arsenic and Old Lace. It takes place on Halloween, though it's more comedy than horror, and the Halloween vibes are pretty low overall. Still a fun movie. I think I read somewhere that orginally Jimmy Stewert was supposed to play the part.

Speaking of Jimmy Stewart, I just rented Harvey from Netflix.

When I got my first computer back in 2008 it sure was a lot of fun looking up these old movies online. Many a Saturday and Sunday afternoons were spent with movies "pre-WWII". What I didn't expect was how much I grew to love old cinema, especially realizing the older films from the 1920's that may have been lost forever.

Topper Returns got me thinking about my favorite episode of "Galaxy High" from 1986, Doyle has to make a pizza delivery to the Haunted Planet!
