originally i made a concept as to focus the character to a young crowd, as she would travel to different planets and having a nameless green alien by her side. the character had the gender of a girl out of choice, but also the characteristics of how an alien would talk in cartoons, vast vocabulary and all.

in late 2011, things began to pick up as i began giving gilda a more space-like design by giving her armor. i also began thinking about featuring this as a mini-series of books, with each one counting a chapter, and eventually ending the story by having her and her alien companion going into a cryogenic sleep, awaiting a more advanced future.
one idea that became recurring was to give gilda a sort of different form, which is triggered by something unusual. originally it was to be a reference to the girl, launch, from dragon ball, a girl that sneezes and turns into a tough as nails blonde. the concept for this form was similar, but somewhat different

gilda, going from a lighthearted space traveler to a punk rocker girl just felt a bit iffy to me, but was still a pretty amusing idea.
what gilda uses as a mean of traveling is a clich'e U.F.O. ship, but it comes with a feature to transform into an aquatic bipedal sub that's capable of opening up passages hidden in ocean floors

i apologize if the design looks kinda poor, i drew this when i was just getting started with drawing with a digital tablet...
so as to end this series lightly, i started working on a spin-off known as gilda xl, with the story now focusing towards a slightly older crowd, in which gilda bids her farewell to her alien friend and becomes a galactic soldier and dealing with military conflict.

well, that's about it for this little piece of history from me. i will say that many inspirations were taken into developing this character, mostly a number of space-related cartoons that i watched during childhood, and i've learned a lot from them as well. i'll see you guys on the flipside with more artwork soon!
