Forum » Chew The Fat » Why no Image Comics?

I've been keeping tabs on the latest Marvel/DC news and although I'm excited to see both Civil War and Justice League unfold, I can't help but wonder, why are Image comics left untapped?

The Walking Dead is one of the most successful television shows of all time and it's based on the Image comic book. When will we start seeing the likes of The Darkness, Chew, or even Witchblade on the small or silver screen?

Some may say, Image Comics are not popular enough... I beg to differ. A host of video games have been made just with Todd McFarlane's name slapped on them. Also, any 90's kid is familiar with the iconic Spawn.

When will we start seeing Capcom vs Image or Mortal Kombat vs Image games? Or The Savage Dragon and Invincible on Netflix?

If I was a Hollywood exec, I'd be snapping up Image properties at a premium, I mean if they can make a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, then anything is possible!

What do you guys think?

I wouldn't mind seeing a series or film based on Cyber Force or Union. I bet Savage Dragon would do pretty well too (yes, I know there was an animated series).

I'd love to see a Darkness movie. As long as it was gritty and rated R, I could see it working out so well.

A few days ago, Todd McFarlane posted the first images from the new Spawn animated series. I'm really excited for that. I loved the original HBO show.

I don't think they would do well. Spawn the movie did OK but not great at box office. I never liked anything McFarlane did. I basically see him as another Rob Liefeld.

I guess I'd think Savage Dragon is the best bet. There's mainstream appeal there.

The Maxx, done properly, would be too surreal for wide release. I think. Maybe I'm wrong and people would appreciate a bizarre dreamworld parallel hallucinated by a homeless weirdo. I'm just thinking of Aeon Flux movie, which tanked. They were both popular as Liquid Television segments to weird kids like me but in 21st century Hollywood? Dunno.
The only other Image comic I see possible, at least to start, would be Shadowhawk, and honestly I think that would be terrible. He's basically a Punisher except even more hokey.

Ultimately I guess it depends on the execution. Like, Daredevil could have been a good movie, you know, with a different writer, director, cast, and plot.

Also, I didn't know TWD was an Image book. I've only heard about the creators' names, never the publisher. I assumed it was a b&w indie. So that could be part of it. You hear about "Marvel Marvel Marvel." When an Image property gets mainstream success you hear "creator creator creator." Which doesn't lead to interest in a stable of titles, but at least it matches the intentions and the original purpose of the company.

Invincible rocks! I met Robert Kirkman (actually on two separate occasions) and while everyone was talking to him about TWD I thanked him for Invincible lol
