My Top Five 90's Crushes

Amy O’Neill
Amy Szlaninski from “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” was the epitome of the girl next door. She is the epitome of your best friends’ dreamy older sister. Amy O’Neill was a dream boat in “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” and even then at six years old, we swooned over her and her ability to literally take hold of the fantastic situation and help her brother. I crushed on Amy O’Neill for years and to this day whenever I happen upon “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” I’m reminded of how dreamy she was.

Larisa Oleynik
She wore backward caps and loose fitting clothing but she was still swoon worthy. My brother and I watched “Alex Mack” all the time when it was on Nickelodeon. Yes, the show was very good, but we were big on Larisa Oleynik and continued being so for many years after the series ended. She was also quite memorable in “10 Things I Hate About You.” Oleynik is still a beauty to this day, re-emerging on Nickelodeon recently for a new series. She’s a genuinely underrated nineties heartthrob.

Marnette Patterson
Marnette Patterson had a small career in the nineties, but she is most notable for her starring role in the 90’s comedy “Camp Nowhere.” I, like many in 1993, were also in love with Marnette Patterson. As Trish she was what every boy wanted in a girlfriend, and she was genuinely charming, charismatic, and likable. It’s too bad she never really took off once she grew older (Anyone remember her sitcom “Movie Stars”?), but we’ll always have “Camp Nowhere.”

Summer Sanders
Summer Sanders was one of the faces of Nickelodeon for such a long time even fueling the once beloved Nick GAS. The athlete turned TV host presided over so many events and shows like the hilarious “Figure It Out” which ran from 1997 to 1999, and the fun “NBA Inside Stuff.” Although she’s been mostly involved with sports throughout her career, she’ll always be remembered for her ability to make kids’ dumb hobbies and talents seem exciting for a live audience. Remember the girl whose dog would drink out of her mouth? Ick.

Tiffani Amber Thiessen
Kelly Kapowski was the “it girl” for a lot of the 1990’s as she was the ideal high school girl that every boy dreamt about. I loved “Saved by the Bell,” and watched it for so many, many years even after it went off the air, but I loved it primarily for Tiffani Amber Thiessen. Even at her dumbest, she was always too good for Zack Morris. Hell, trading him in for Jeff was also stupid. Nevertheless, Kelly was the center of “Saved by the Bell” and I’ll always remember the torn page of TV Guide of her hanging in my closet for a few years.
