3598	Article	mickyarber	This is a really good nostalgia piece, and there was a lot to digest. Since there was a lot to digest, there is a lot to comment on, so bear with me while I hit some of the highlights: - Hot Wheels always made great Christmas gifts, and you seemed to hit the jackpot with the specific ones you got! I had each and everyone of the cars featured in the 5 pack and 6 pack you show here, so I'm betting I got both of those packs at some point in life. I think I got more use out of the "Larry's Towing" white tow truck than any of the the other cars. - My older brother was the one fortunate enough to have that sweet How Wheels Sto and Go Service Center play set. He was always a scrooge with it, and I never got to touch it really until he out grew toys and it sort of became a hand me down. - All of your personal pictures in this article are great btw, but at the moment I was looking at the one of you setting up to play Catapults and Crossbows. It's cool you actually got to play the game. I had saved up allowance money at some point and bought it, but never once found anyone to play it with. I had to settle for setting it all up and playing the role of both players :( - That picture of the fried bologna sandwich looks incredible. Growing up in the south I can tell you there is no more traditional lunch time food than a bologna sandwich. If it's fried, then it becomes a delicacy. - I always preferred the Franco-American brand of canned pastas over Chef Boyardee. SpaghettiOs are the cadillac of canned pasta. - I like the little tale of your Grandma saying that the monsters helped out around the place and a bite of cookie was a small price to pay for their help. My grandma would make up little tidbits like this all the time that would keep us grandkids discussing the possibility of it being real for days. - The silver tree in that one picture is the spitting image of the one my grandmother used all the way up until she passed away in 2006! I love those old trees. To some, they may seem tacky, but to me and the memories I have of it at my grandmas tree, I say they are priceless. - All my life, I can't recall a Christmas season when there wasn't a blue tin of those danish style butter cookies sitting on the counter. Even as I type this, there is a tin of them sitting on my own counter. This was a really fun look back at some early 80's toys and such. Thanks a lot for bringing so much detail to it. 3613	Article	mickyarber	You've hit the nail on the head here talking about the "other" side of Christmas. Like I wrote in an old article, for years and years I always put on my wish list a rock tumbler and a chemistry set that I saw in the Sears Wish Book, but I never got them. On the flip side, I usually got things I liked from relatives. I didn't have many that I got stuff from, but the ones I did, did a pretty good job.	Christmas 64	Dec 20, 2016

3777	Article	mickyarber	Charleston candy had ads in comic books for years. I have some books from the 60's that have ads in them for Charleston. And I have books from the 70's, 80's, and 90's that also have them in them. They must have gotten great returns on the investment or they wouldn't have promoted in comic books for over 30 years. 3792	Article	mickyarber	@Hoju I was a fan of Kyle Rayner too. When he took over in GL #51, I started picking the book up every month up through the last 60's issues. The McDonald's toys are foreign to me, but the rest I have at least a recollection of. The Spiderman pasta always sold really well. Keep the old advertising, especially the food advertising, coming. 3856	Article	mickyarber	I'm always amazed at how mine and your childhoods mirrored each other's. Most of this is the same fears that were drilled into us in school here in Virginia. Except maybe the street gangs. I always felt the same about NYC. Through depictions on television and in movies, it always seemed dirty and violent. My cousin Stevie had them, and like so many of his toys, the rest of us weren't allowed to touch them. I still need to get around to writing that "Stevie the Tyrant" article.
