| 2365 | Article | Vaporman87 | Wow. That's a lot to digest. Clearly MTV had a major impact on you in the 90's. My interest in MTV waned beginning in the late 80's. In the mid-80's, it was the "cool" thing to do to watch MTV and Friday Night Videos, catching the latest video representations of your favorite music whenever time allowed (and someone else wasn't watching the big screen). I can recall pretty clearly sitting with my buddy Phil on one of those crazy looking curved chaise chairs, powering on the big screen TV (the kind that lifted out of the cabinet like some kind of alien fortress), and watching music television. But by the 90's, MTV had run it's course with me. Later, when MTV introduced Beavis and Butthead, Aeon Flux, Singled Out, and other entertaining programs, I started tuning back in. I also found myself fascinated by the first season of The Real World, like you (I HATED Puck!!!). Then, once again, I began losing interest. Since then, I have all but forgotten MTV. You would have to pay me a significant amount of money to watch it at this point. And when they started introducing other channels (MTV2???) just to air videos, I knew this thing had jumped the shark, at least in my opinion. But it will always hold a particularly special place in my memory jar, for those nights long gone, sitting with a friend and enjoying our favorite music set to video. | Jul 08, 2015 |  | |
| 867 | Article | Vaporman87 | Wow. That's awesome that you were able to finally complete a game that you started many years ago. That does have to be a fun and special feeling. My brother was always the RPG player in the family. I preferred the action/adventure games with real time fighting and such, as opposed to anything turn based. And, I had a hard time getting into games that used so much text instead of actual dialogue. I really don't know why, since I grew up on games with NO dialogue at all (text based OR spoken), but I think after that first time I heard "B-17 bomber" come through a speaker on the Intellivision... I felt like I wanted to HEAR the characters speak from then on. Still, I occasionally enjoyed watching the games be played through. I had some difficulty with the fact that many of the characters of RPGs were little kids. I wanted my heroes to be giant warriors with massive axes, lol. But, I've grown to appreciate the genre as the years have progressed. Now, Phantasy Star... the only Phantasy Star game I have actually played was the Phantasy Star Online game for the Sega Dreamcast. I actually spent a good deal of time playing that one with my brother in online multiplayer. I don't know if any of the story from that game tied in to the mythos of the original Phantasy Star games, or if it was something like Final Fantasy where every game is a new story, but it was a fun romp. Nor was I aware that He-Man and She-Ra were originally going to be love interests. That just creeps me out to think about now. LOL Also, Dave Coulier gets around my friend. Smurfs killing people doesn't actually surprise me that much. That Grumpy Smurf was just a hair's breadth away from killing the whole lot of them. I never really had the chance to watch but just a few of the episodes of the old show, but what I did see always creeped me out. I think the fact that the show was in black and white added to that creepiness. I always feared that, as I watched an episode unfold, I would be tricked into thinking the ending was going to be a happy one. Then have that notion flipped on it's head when a final twist arrived. The only Korean film I know of is Yonggary (which is, of course, a giant monster movie). I'm curious to know what movies you may have watched in the theater that summer. Any that you recall? He had that great quality of being the loveable bad guy. And that's hard to achieve, especially for something like an ad campaign. I wish they would bring him back in full force. I might consider buying a Dominos Pizza if they did. LOL I would only add two honorable mentions here... those being the California Raisins, and Spuds McKenzie. I liked Spuds a lot (I had a couple Spuds McKenzie t-shirts in my youth). Even though he was the mascot of a product I could not purchase (nor did I want to), he was fun and cool. Some of my friends did, and many at school proclaimed their love for it via t-shirts and other memorablia... or just dressing like they were one themselves. But I did come to appreciate Alice after I saw his cameo in Wayne's World. Only after that did I start doing a little research on the man, and giving some consideration to his music. I still wouldn't call myself a fan, but I do like the song he provided for Friday The 13th, Man Behind The Mask.
