880ArticleVaporman87Doesn't it seem sad to think that a franchise like McDonald's offering books in their Happy Meals is "newsworthy"? I'm mean, what do we expect anymore? What WILL we expect in the future? Will Happy Meals have to come with iPhone cases or some other "tech" crap? Now, for Taco Bell to offer ANY toy or prize seems peculiar, simply because you see so little of that from them these days. The last thing I remember getting there was a Godzilla (American '98 version) cup holder for your car (remember the "Here lizard, lizard, lizard." ads with the dog?).  Dec 05, 2013View
893ArticleVaporman87I know Chick-Fil-A did a Berenstain Bears book promotion in their kids meals not long ago. They were essentially shrunken versions of actual BB books on the market. Very neat. I think instead of toys with meals, Taco Bell should include some Zantac and a portable potty.Literary Classics at Taco BellDec 09, 2013View
894ArticleVaporman87I hate to be a downer, but I was not much of a fan of the second Gremlins film. It felt TOO campy for my tastes. Almost like one of those Disney "sequels" to their top line properties that go straight to home video release. Still, it had it's moments. I bet it was hard to bring yourself to crack open that package containing a mini "time capsule" of sorts. It's like your cracking open a bottle of the 80's that kind of hits you in the face for a second and then disappears. You ended up with some nice additions though. Thanks for sharing Miss M! 897ArticleVaporman87WOW! This is a really well done article, and it's obvious you spent a great deal of time putting it together. So thank you for that vkimo. One thing I picked up on right away is that, although our Christmas experiences were so different growing up, the spirit of it and the magic feeling of the season can be felt regardless. Having grown up and lived my entire life in an ultra small community, I can't relate to the splendor and awe of a place like San Fran during Christmas. Even so, I recognize that feeling from my own memories. It's something that transcends your environment and circumstances. I laughed at the insertion of Rain Man and the generic fat guy as stand ins for your relatives. LOL. Hilarious. Thanks for this vkimo. A great read! A Yuletide Yakking Dec 12, 2013View
900ArticleVaporman87This special is very well done. I had not seen it at all until only within the past few years. I was instantly captivated by it. With He-Man and She-Ra no longer part of our toy culture (on a large scale), this is one you won't see played on a major network like the Peanuts or Rankin Bass specials. But it's every bit as good, if not better. I highly recommend it. Thanks Miss M!He-Man and She-Ra Celebrate Christmas too!Dec 13, 2013View
908ArticleVaporman87I can't say I watch any particular feature length films to get into the Christmas spirit (though, I like watching Scrooged around this time of year). I settle for the short specials that air every year. But now I just pop them in the DVD player instead of looking for them in the TV Guide. Some favorites of mine are Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty The Snowman, Twas The Night Before Christmas (Rankin-Bass), the Chipmunks Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, etc. All of your choices are very interesting though. I've never really thought to watch any of these during Christmas, though they take place during that time of year. Thanks again Miss M!Dorkette Christmas TraditionsDec 14, 2013View
909ArticleVaporman87I think the length was just right. Just enough information to relay your fond memories without going into mundane details. It's easy to relate to, and that makes it a memorable read.ThatDude's Christmas MemoriesDec 14, 2013View
913VideoVaporman87I don't know Ben. They show Charlie Brown every year and Linus has that whole quote from the Bible in it. Maybe they just feel like Garfield isn't relevant enough and doesn't carry the nostalgic power of Charlie Brown during the holidays?A Garfield Christmas SpecialDec 17, 2013View
916ArticleVaporman87What is it about Santa (the live action ones) that so many children fear? Both of my sons DO NOT want anything to do with him, though they sure do love the presents he brings! I don't remember a time when I ever feared Santa, but I'm sure there was one. It's almost like a rite of passage for children to overcome the fear of hopping up on his lap to list your wants that year. What I like about this most, is that I had completely forgotten about the old 900 numbers you could use to call Santa. I personally never used them, but I remember now all the commercials that aired each year. Funny stuff. Thanks for this pikachulover! The Many Forms of SantaDec 17, 2013View
920ArticleVaporman87Wow! Where to begin? So much of what you have gone into here I can relate to. For starters, I can't agree with you enough regarding commercials during the Parade. Good grief, does there really need to be THAT many breaks in the action? I suppose if you had recorded it previously (as you mentioned), you could simply fast forward through the commercials... but it shouldn't have to be that way. Putting up the tree as a kid was not something we really did much as a family. Now that I have my own little family, we DO make it an occasion (especially the choosing of the tree and the star that will adorn the top). An what Christmas would be complete without the right television specials and films? When you're a child, it doesn't really matter what you're told or how you're taught... you are GOING to remain solely focused on presents. How can you not? So a kid can hardly be liable for not desiring to attend a church service in the midst of such excitement. And I say that as a Christian myself. Thankfully, the actual time for opening presents (and playing with them) and attending service rarely conflicted for me. Finally, I share your affinity for snow. During the beginning of this month, we were in Florida. It was so strange to see all the Christmas lights and hubbub in such a warm climate. I felt like something was missing. Then, in the Magic Kingdom, there are places and times when "fake" snow (consisting of clumped up bubbles) fall from the sky. I felt sad for those there that have never actually seen the real deal. That fake snow made me long for home and the real thing. Great first article SF! Thanks so much for sharing!A White ChristmasDec 18, 2013View
