| 960 | Article | Vaporman87 | Ahhh... you really know how to bring out the nostalgia in a reader. Yes, rainy days COULD be fun. To be honest, I don't remember much about what we would typically do during elementary school recesses that were rained out. If I'm not mistaken, we would hang out in class or the gym. This was not nearly as fun as being outside (and under less focused supervision). Yet, rainy days did have a special quality about them. For me, it forced me to draw more on my inner creativity... creating new ways to enjoy my toys or new ideas for crafting or drawing things that interested me. Everything from forts in the garage made of refrigerator boxes (my family owned a furniture store until the mid-90's) to robots made with cardboard, construction paper, markers, and tape. I didn't particularly like playing IN the rain though. However, it did provide some neat chances to create mini landscapes for my toys to live in... landscapes with "ponds" and "rivers". Occasionally they became "buildings" for my sister and I to destroy Godzilla style (complete with a rolled up blanket tucked into the back of my pants as a "tail"). I can remember coming home from church on Sundays and sitting down on the couch to enjoy that show. | 972 | Article | Vaporman87 | Oh man. Soooo much commercial goodness here that I had all but forgotten about. I have to start with the Whatchamacallit ad. I had COMPLETELY forgotten everything about that commercial. And yet, I remember seeing it so much that it would rattle around in my head for hours afterward. I miss seeing that ad on tv. The Crystal Pepsi ad with the "Right Now" song is such a good ad. Too bad the drink wasn't. lol Then, of course, there are the 7-UP and Nike ads which I recall seeing many times over. The Jordan/Bug Bunny ad played constantly it's prime, and I think was only topped by the Barkley vs. Godzilla ads. I have never seen the "fart/pager" ad before. That is hilarious! I knew several people who had pagers, though I did not. I can see their usefulness at the time, but I simply just did not receive enough phone calls to warrant owning one. Oh right, California. lol. ;) Ah, if there is one thing I can clearly recall it is the feeling of being at one of our high school dances after the football games. Many times, I was like you... sitting on the bleachers talking with friends and imagining dancing with my crush. She, of course, had a boyfriend at all times and was fathoms out of my league, but that just can't stop those dreams, can it. I can vividly recall the dancing going on to the recently released single by none other than Vanilla Ice, Ice Ice Baby. Yup, every student and his brother was out there dancing like fools to that song. Wow, looking back on it now it all seems so ridiculous. LOL. But man, it was huge when it first hit. | 976 | Article | Vaporman87 | These cards are very reminiscent of those that my classmates and I exchanged every year in Elementary School. It was our parents to duty to make sure every child on the list that we were each given had a card from us. It was a fun time to stand up in class and start handing out cards until everyone was finished, and then start opening them. Occasionally you would get a nice little message from a friend. I typically stuck with the superhero or Saturday Morning Cartoon themes. Those were my favorites. I don't think I ever received one with a built in scent though. I missed out on that!!!
