As they say, "That escalated quickly". I love the term "racially charged". As though one could possibly know the true motivations for such a comment.

Have you ever seen anyone called an ape for any other reason? I have not.

What do you think about the religion part?

I have, yes. I have never heard the term "ape" or "monkey" used as a racial slur though. I've only been told that it is one by talking heads on television shows.

That being said, Roseanne should have known that such a comment would be construed as racist. The fact that she posted it anyway shows me that she is... well, Roseanne. She deserves her punishment. It's unfortunate so many others had to suffer because of her stupidity.

I did not see any reference to a religion in her comments though. Only reference to an organization responsible for civil unrest and terrorist offshoots.

Just because you never heard it used as a racial slur, that does not make it news media propaganda.
There are still poor white folk in rural Georgia and Alabama who fly confederate flags, and it's not because the flag looks nice.  Racism of the South never went away.  I heard those slurs a lot in my life.  My friend was denied entry to a bar in college because he was black, and I refused to go in without him.

Seriously?  The reference to religion is within the organization.  I don't see Buddhists or Christians or Atheists in the Muslim Brotherhood.  It's Muslims.
The conspiracy theory is that they (the Muslims) are infiltrating the government to undo our society.
You'd have to ignore that people claimed Obama was a Muslim for years due to his father's heritage and made a point to use his middle name to criticize him.  That was through racial and religious perception.  He doesn't have to be Muslim at all, but their attitude is against Muslims regardless.  Can you tell the difference between a Muslim in the Brotherhood and those not?  Can Roseanne?

Roseanne tweeted about a former Obama advisor and mentioned the Muslim Brotherhood as a mix with with the Planet of the Apes.  Racists and bigots will seize on that and feel legitimized.  Conspiracy theorists will seize on that because she deleted the tweet.  "Oh, she deleted the tweet, and MAINSTREAM MEDIA FAKE NEWS is freaking out. Roseanne knew the TRUTH and THEY wouldn't allow that."

My friend is Puerto Rican, and every time a Muslim terror event happens, racists target her for harassment due to her skin color.  She's American and Christian.  Racists don't care.

If you are Michelle Wolfe you can make jokes about abortion at the White House and get a Netflix special

Never said it was propaganda. Only that my knowledge of it being used as a racial slur has come from news outlets (talking heads on television shows).

Um... that's great??? I'm guessing most of us here have friends of other races, with their own stories to tell. I don't understand the point of these statements, or what they have to do with, er... anything really.

Anyway, the Muslim Brotherhood is an organization. Not a religion. Islam is a religion. If I were Roseanne, and I wanted to slam everyone of Islamic faith, I would just use "Islam" or it's originator (unlikely given that someone would probably try to kill her - not a proud thing to admit to for most Muslims I think), not a specific organization struggling to keep it's credibility.

But it really doesn't matter. Who cares what Roseanne thinks at all?

You know, it's too bad you don't show this kind of initiative or fervor for the real point of this site.

Roseanne: The Complete Series is the #1 best seller on Amazon right now.

It wasn't when I got it last year.

In any case, I don't think this is a big loss as a viewer. After the initial excitement, the comedy of the show felt like they were really reaching. Especially with the reaction shots and how long they went on. Like "hey, do ya get that joke? See what we did there? *nudge nudge wink wink* Well? Do ya??" I was thinking about this a few weeks ago, but I wanted to leave it alone in case others were enjoying it. But that doesn't matter now

I felt the same way. Much of it seemed a bit forced. I think so many of us WANTED to like it in the same way as before, but there was just something missing...

HA! Yeah, right.

My point went over your head.
You have no experience with those words, but I do. I provided examples of a few of my experiences with racists who use that language.  It matters to actual living people.  These aren't the characters on TV.

If you can't tell the difference, I can't help that.

I didn't really care for the Roseanne of today, anyway.  I don't want to see these characters get old.  Old John Goodman makes me sad, and the kids kept pushing the "we're old now" line.  They still looked like kids to me, but with wrinkles.

From Tiny Toon Adventures.

Tress MacNeille nailed the Roseanne impression perfectly.
