aside from the new design it looks like they got his personality down more accurately here.

SO much better! It looks like they not only fixed Sonic's look but straight up reshot a lot of scenes.  

I'll take the kids to see it for no other reason than the filmmakers took criticism to heart and worked to make it right before pushing it out there. The rest of Hollywood could learn from this.

Only gripe I have about the movie is they should have had Jaleel "Steve Urkel" White come back to reprise his role as the voice of Sonic (like in the cartoons. So yeah, if Sonic's voice sounded familiar, that's why). Heck, he hasn't done anything in like 20 years since Family Matters got canned

well he did make it in that one fanmade sonic movie from a few years back, though that movie was pretty bland at best.

I take it back: Apparently he did find work a few years back, but even then, just fan service that wasn't very good lol

i heard he already did some voicework for a new scooby doo show returning as steve urkel and he immediately got in character recording the lines. wonder if they'll have him in for more.
