However, with a character actually named "Ford Brody", whose only purpose is to be "oh hey I'm in the military so I can be here," totally ruins what could've been the next Johnny Rico.

No exaggeration, a wooden plank would have been a better main character.

1998 was not a Godzilla film. It was a movie about a giant iguana digging holes in New York. Then somebody named it Godzilla. I don't mind minimal screen time for a first film in a franchise. However many will be expecting more G on the screen the next go around.

So it's clear, I have yet to see it and likely won't see it until we've returned home... So no spoilers.

Movie trailers are like a Whopper. They may look good on TV, but they're different when you see the actual thing.
