5 Terrifying Memories from my Childhood

It's that time of year again, folks! The time where we all call pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, watch scary movies, dress up as either scary monsters or our favorite characters, and go door-to-door begging strangers for candy! That's right! It's Halloween! Okay, not really. I know it might be a bit early to do a Halloween article, but since store are already selling Halloween stuff, I might as well start early myself.

Anyway, Halloween is known for scary stuff. Whether it's scary noises coming from outside, a psycho trying to kill you, or in the case of this article, something from your childhood. I mean, we all had memories stuff from my childhood that terrified us when we were kids, whatever that was something from a show or movie we watched, a video game that we played, a book or comic that we read or a picture or everyday object that we found creepy or scary. Today, I will be sharing with you, in no particular order, some of my scariest childhood memories. Some of these might not have been scary to some of you, but they would definitely scary to me. So without further ado, let's get spooky!

The Powerpuff Girls - Speed Demon (2000)

Let's start off with an episode of The Powerpuff Girls that I'm sure gave a lot of kids in the early 2000s the Willies. In the 2000 episode, "Speed Demon", after Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup accidentally open up a portal through time while having a lightspeed race home, they round up in an apocalyptic vision of the City of Townsville, where in their absence, everything has gone to hell. Literally! After a tussle with the demonic entity known as HIM, who, at that point, has turned into a giant demonic Kaiju, the girls are confronted with the elderly citizens of Townsville, who then blame the girls for what has happened. I'm telling you, between HIM's transformation into a giant demon and the elderly citizens chanting "It's your fault..."over and over again at the girls, that was a pretty terrifying episode. Just as terrifying as the episode that was paired with it. But that's a topic for another article.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? - judge Doom's True Identity revealed and death (1988)

Next, we have a scene for one of my favorite movies, involving one of my favorite villains. In Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, The main antagonist, Judge Doom (played by Back to the Future star, Christopher Lloyd) plus to destroy Toontown and all of its inhabitants with a concoction he calls DIP. Doing the final competition between Eddie and Doom, the former which is trying to save Roger and his wife Jessica from getting doused with the DIP, the latter gets run over by a steamroller, before his limp, flat form it's up to re-inflate himself, revealing himself to not only be a toon, but the very toon who killed Eddie's brother prior to the events of the movie. After almost getting sliced in two by Doom, Eddie grabs a trick mallet, which shoots out a boxing glove, which Doom quickly evades, only for it to  the valve for the tank of DIP, causing it to shoot out and on to Doom himself. As he's melting into a puddle of ink and paint, brought on by his own DIP, he emulates the wicked witch of the West from The wizard of Oz as he shouts "I'm melting!" and "What a world!" It was certainly terrifying seeing Judge Doom melt in a puddle of his own Dip, but I suppose it was better him than Roger and the other toons.

Courage the Cowardly Dog - King Ramses' Curse (2000)

Question: who was, in your opinion, the most terrifying monster from Courage the Cowardly Dog? If your answer was King Ramsey, then you were in the same camp that I was when this guy first showed up. In the aptly titled episode, King Ramses' Curse, after finding an ancient slab, which was previously stolen by a couple of crooks, Eustace Baggs, being the greedy son of a B**** that he is, plans to sell the slab for a large amount of money. Before he does however, King Ramses it shows up, in all of his terrifying CGI Glory. And boy, is he peeved! After he threatens them with an indoor flood, terrible music (no, I'm not making that one up) and a swarm of locusts, Courage ends up giving the slab back to King Ramses. But Eustace, being his usual stubborn and greedy self, refuses to let the slab go, only to face the full wrath of King Ramses' Curse. But let's face it, he deserves it. And this was just one of the creeps that courage had to face on a daily basis. But again, I think that's a topic for another article.

Matilda - Chase Scene (1996)

I think we can all agree, that while in school, we have, in one way or another, had to deal with someone who made our time in school a bit harder than usual, whether that was a fellow student, the bus driver or a teacher. I felt that way in Middle School. At least we can think our lucky stars that none of our teachers were as crazy as Agatha Trunchbull from the 1996 movie based off the Roald Dahl book of the same name, Matilda. In the movie, Trunchbull was extremely strict, putting the students through all sorts of punishments, including walking them up in her own version of a timeout room dubbed "The Chokey". (Those who have seen the movie or read the book know what I'm talking about.) In the scene shown above, Matilda and her teacher, Miss Honey, go into the Trunchbull's house, only to be trapped when she comes home. What follows is something no student wants to go through. When the Trunchbull learns there is someone in the house, not knowing that it's one of her teachers and one of her students, she then proceeds to chase after them. From the Trunchbull jumping from the second floor to the first floor while shouting "tally ho!" and causing the whole house to shake from the impact, to her nearly catching Matilda under her kitchen table, to chasing her and Miss Honey through the basement with a ball and chain (The one you would see used in The Hammer throw event in the Olympics), the whole scene had me on edge. Thankfully for Matilda, she gets one over the Trunchbull at the end. Thank goodness for that. But even the Trunchbull pales in comparison to what I've saved for last.

Carson-Dellosa art

Okay. I know this might seem like a joke to some of you, and in a way, it kind of is. But growing up with autism, to me, this was nightmare fuel. I don't know what it was, but there was just something about this art style that gave me the heebie-jeebies. From those blank, soulless eyes to that unsettling wide, creepy smile, whether they were on a poster or a workbook, those faces have always creeped me out, even to this day. You can laugh if you want, but I'm sure some of you, if not most of you agree that these guys were creepy as heck!

And there you have it, you guys! Five things from my childhood that shook me to the core. Again, some of these might not be terrifying to you guys, but they were to me. And these are some of the things that creeped me out when I was a kid. I might make another article on creepy stuff that happened in Courage the Cowardly Dog, as well as articles for the Powerpuff Girls and Rugrats. But what about you guys? What's a creepy memory from your childhood? Was that something from your charger that you found creepy or unsettling that no one else did? Let me know in the comments down below. Until then, see you in the next article! ;-)

for me it wasn't just judge doom's reveal that creeped me out in who framed roger rabbit, but the scene where doom kills off a cartoon shoe when putting it in the dip to show what it can do.
