RETRORATING: 14

I've seen several films of late, so I suppose I should post about all of them here in one giant post...

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Watched this with the family and a group of church friends. This was a fairly enjoyable adventure, though it feels a bit like a retread of some territory. For instance the escape of the film's main dino-baddy (previously done with Jurassic Park 2) and ole Dr. Wu coming up with some amalgamation of real dino and "super genes", just like last time.

It's a decent popcorn film, but not much more than that.

A Quiet Place

So this was a unique film that felt a bit like an M. Night Shyamalan piece, but without the ridiculous dialogue or over-the-top twist. Very sobering, very intense, and well done. There are some disappointments and it leaves you with some "Well, why couldn't the military have just done (insert solution here)" type of questions. I won't go into that because they would be spoilers, but all-in-all I recommend this film be viewed at least once for the experience.

Rampage

Good popcorn fun. Less humorous or corny than I expected it to be, which was fine. I don't mind taking the subject matter seriously in order to add some amount of tension. The action was top notch, and the effects seemed well done for the most part. A nice homage to the game, even if it strays far, far away from the "story" in the game.

Look closely inside the offices of Energyne and you will see a Rampage machine in there. Nice touch.

I realize now I hadn't mentioned it in the thread for it, but I also thought the new Jumanji film was pretty good.

This sorta changes your outlook on Dwayne, doesn't it?

Deadpool 2

Finally got around to seeing this. I think it's on par with the first film, some might disagree but I feel like it hit all the points it needed to hit: it had some references to the first film, but also did something completely new. I was laughing from beginning to end. I hate time travel movies, but I'm glad this one was a little more grounded in that department.

I gotta catch The Incredible 2 and Jurassic World before they leave theaters as well.

I also saw A Quiet Place recently. Something Vaporman forgot to mention is that it's very atmospheric and creepy at times. It's a must-see if you like horror movies.

The women of New Vegas ask me a lot if there's a Mrs. New Vegas. Well, of course there is! You're her. And you're still just as perfect as the day we met.

Cinderella (2015)

Sure, Lily James had a Photoshopped  body...

but she still played the title character very well.Couldn't have asked for a better actress. And I like the way they did the story. It really stays true to the animated film.

5 stars.

I rewatched Ready Player One-

I remember feeling a bit underwhelmed when I first saw it, but it definitely grew on me after the second viewing. The premise was simply too grand to capture on film, but I enjoyed the romp that it was. It is a interesting concept that I can definitely see happening one day in the future

Imagine a stay at home mom being one of the most famous pop stars in the Oasis or a real world janitor running a corporation in it. It's amazing what people can do when they shed there self made chains of limitation.

Incredibles 2

I finally got around to catching this film today. Overall it was an enjoyable experience. I agree with what Vaporman said in The Incredibles thread that it was a good follow-up to the first film but not as great. It felt like it was just retreading a lot of the same material from the first, the villain was kind of weak in both motive and execution and the final battle felt so anti-climatic compared to the first film. Also, the animation was decent but I felt it slipped in some areas compared to the first. That brick and bend heroes felt a little too wacky in how their bodies looked.

The entire film felt smaller compared to the first one. I don't know what it was but it just didn't have the same vast encompassing factor in comparison to the first. For the Pixar film that most deserved a sequel and that we had to wait so long for, it felt a little like a let down. But I guess some of it might just be me being so much older compared to when I saw the first one. Overall despite the flaws I listed, Incredibles 2 still stood out and was a fun film. I hope we eventually got a third film eventually that doesn't have these mistakes.

The Client

Saw this film because my grandmother recorded it. It's an okay legal drama for the most part, telling the story of a young boy from a trailer park who gets entangled in a mafia legal case. I felt like it was kind of drawn out at times and was just unrealistic for what a legal drama is meant to capture. But if you are into these type of films then give it a viewing.

Rampage

An overall fun action flick. A little corny and I kind of wish we got a little more action in it.  But it did what it needed to do.
