Okay gang. We can do this. We have our work cut out for us. We are back in time on the site as it was in May.

First what did we lose? 6 months of:

Submitted Articles
Draft Articles
Video Uploads
Forum Discussions
Post Counts
Personal Titles earned after May
Private Messages
Summer Contest Winner
Halloween Contest Winner
Point Store merchandise availability
Points for the Points Store
Purchases made in the Points Store to keep inventory accurate after all we probably received our prizes already
Website Upgrades
Mobile Friendly Options
Troll killer options for Tony

Star Submitter top spots as of 11/24/2016

Okay friends and neighbors here is what we can do.

We
are going to make google work for us. Open a google search page. Enter
the exact title of your articles that were lost one at a time with the
words RETRO DAZE. (*IMPORTANT*
) Instead of clicking the link it will provide in the search results (*IMPORTANT*)
click the little green down arrow next to the url for the article and
click cached in the submenu. It will take you to a cached version of
your article where you can copy your text. You may even see some of the
pictures but do not try to save them as they will result in broken
links. You should already have them saved on your computers from the
first time you wrote the articles. Go to the current Retro Daze page and
submit your articles over again by posting your text and reinserting
your photos.  Submitting should restore some of your star submitter
status, point values, and will bring back some of the content on the
website. So that we can reread some of the articles that were lost. If I
was unable to find your exact article title you can search as close to
the title as you remember and it should still work and bring up a cached
copy. Some of you may have backed up your files prior to submitting and
may be able to just re-post your articles.

We can do this! Lets go Back To The Future er Present so that we can relive our past!

These are the articles that were up as of 11/24/2016 until about 6/22/2016 that I could recover titles for.

That's a great idea NLogan. And thank you for compiling all that information.

I would advise holding off on that until we see what I can find out from Rakesh with regard to the test server files. If he has everything we need from mid-September, that would be a lot less catching up to do.

I hope to hear from him soon. Crossing my fingers this will work.

Did we find another dedicated server? Are we already moved over if so? Will we lose anything in the transition if not?

I know who I am switching us to. A company that Hoju actually suggested. After contacting them, I felt really good about their backup features and system. Especially that they keep a second server offsite with your site on it. Something happens to one server, they switch to the other and fix the one that's down.

If Rakesh has a full set of site files, and we are able to upload them, then anything we have done here since we came back online would vanish, and we would be fast forwarding to the middle of September. So bare that in mind.

I'm waiting to hear from Rakesh before we make the move to a new host.

I have the article titles saved just in case Rakesh doesn't have the files or isn't able to use them the way we hope. I would suggest for members to grab the article texts that are available in the cached google documents just in case and save them as word files or email them to themselves. If worst comes to worst we have them. Also I don't know how long google maintains their cache.

Another source we can use is the Wayback Machine at archive.org.

https://web.archive.org/web/20161012004934/http://www.retro-daze.org/

Actually, this might be pretty helpful. The site from October seems to be in place, but some of the links even goes to as recent as November 20th. Most of the links I clicked on, from the articles to the forum seems to be fully functional. A side effect to this, however, is that some of the images seem to be gone.

Thank you Blue and NLogan, I'm going to need to back up my articles. My drafts might be lost, but at least my published work can be saved.

Will I get half points if I repost the lost articles on my site even though they were on here first?

Vaporman87
No. You'll get full points.

Rakesh is going to check with his server team on Monday to see what files they have. Keep your fingers crossed.
